Policies and programs are being created to encourage or enforce assimilation in Indian assimilation into American middle class. Over the past 50 years other policies have failed and in my opinion had minor positive outcomes. The policies that affected incorporating Indians into American culture are self-determination and termination. Which both incorporate Indians into the American culture in there own ways. Both policies have worked slightly in my opinion, they have helped Indians improve their incomes, jobs, and the economy. With these policies income levels have raised by about thirty-three percent and the poverty rate has dropped by about seven percent. How do you feel these policies worked even though they did not last? Would you have supported them or not?

The policies probably didn't work because some people are still discriminating against Native Americans.I also agree with Eric. I think that the U.S should get involved and help the Native Americans. The government should make more schools for them help them somehow get more money so they can afford more things and have a better life. Also help them with health care.
ReplyDeleteI too agree with Eric. I think the government should help native Americans improve life on the reservation by helping to create more jobs, heir native American teachers to educate kids about Native American culture and language. The United States government has done so much to try to assimilate native Americans and get rid of them that the least they could do is help out their communities.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the govt should provide basic needs such as free health, school, and a place to go for alcoholic and drug abusing Native Americans.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else, the government should get more involved with the economic problems that the Native Americans have to face. Also by giving the native a productive stand is society, by being able to get better education and health. As well as making it financially available to all Native Americans that live on the reservations.
ReplyDeleteThe government should work mainly on drug and alcohol abuse in the children, because abuse drugs/ alcohol at a young age can only progress into bigger and more harmful things. We need to get all the children into schools they can all communicate and stay together as a culture. The rest of the assimilation process is whether or not they want to become an " American "
