Current Event!

"A recent 5 month 8,300 mile journey across 26 states gave natives a chance to voice the concerns of tribes across the country and to launch a coordinated movement to intensify the community's presence on Washingtons political radar."
Basically, this article is about how the Native Americans are working together to keep their family together and to keep their lands along with their rights. The natives 30 years ago made 'The Longest Walk' and completed it on July 22, 1978 in Washington D.C, they came from California to D.C.. They did this so thay could communicate to the congress about their needs on a regular basis. Congress doesnt have many natives around their area so it was hard for the natives traveling to get attention from them. In that result they made another journey from California to D.C. on July 11th many more joined this 2nd walk. They went throught tough weather conditions to keep the things they need and some even joined last minute or on the way.
"when you see the elders and people coming together, you forget those things."-Margret Morin. Natives acounted for 1% of the population in 2006 at 4.5 million.
Why wouldnt they just drive or fly to congress, why do you think they walked??
