Current Event: 1- 5 - 12

My Current Event was about an Afghan girl being held and toturted for refusing to go into prostitution. I chose this article because it shows how fast the United States is improving when it comes to a womens rights compared to some other countries. Its also surprising that this crime was commited by soldiers that are supposed to be protecting that country. I also found it kind of gross that the age difference between the victim and her husband was 16 years. Overall I think that the people in the area where this happened do not feel safe due to this event not being uncommon.

Do you think the United States should focus on moving forward in our Women's Rights issues, or convert our focus to helpping countries where unhuman events such as this happen regularly?

  1. I think that first we should help women rights in other countries because their problems are way worse than ours and they need more help. After that we should continue to improve women rights in the U.S.

  2. I agree with alayna that we should help other countries with women's right because this will give us that push we need to focus and solve the problems in the U.S.

  3. I agree helping other countries is a concern we should involve in, but at the same time it'll be really hard for us to help all these countries at once and continue to move forward with our rights for women. Not saying we shouldn't help these countries, but at the same time we should look to progress forward for the rights of women in the united states.

  4. I think we should do a little of both. I don't think we should just jump in and try to fix it right away because it will end in war. Not every country wants our culture and we need to remember that. Of course these poor girls need our help so we should think about helping but not just going over there and telling them what to do.

  5. I think that the United States should first help other countries with their women's issues then focus on moving forward our women's rights. I say this because our women's rights are a lot better than most countries so ours can wait until other countries get better.

  6. I think that we should help other countries with their problem with womans rights but only enough so woman don't get hurt. Also I agree with everyone that we should continue with the help for our own country. Helping other countries is good but we shouldn't help them more then our own. Their countries should be taking a step to improve their own country to make it better.

  7. I disagree with everyone elses posts about how we should help other countries with their problems first. I'm not saying that the U.S. Goverment should be selfish and only strive to improve our own countries needs, but our country should always come to mind first and foremost. These other countries have their own goverments and the reason these horrors are happening is because they, the goverment and the people of that country, are letting it happen. So when our problems, including the Womens Rights issues, are solved that's when we can move on and concentrate on helping other issues going on in other countries.

  8. I think it would be great to help women in countries where they have little to no rights. Afghanistan is a messed up place, but we are not stationed there to help women, we are there because of al Qaeda and the Taliban. Hopefully we can make a difference and help women there out, but we can't help every country alone.

  9. I believe the United States should focus more support toward other countries and help eliminate these common risks and problems deriving from domestic violence.. I feel that it is more important to help out other places in the world to keep everything running smooth and steady. Although I feel some attention should be focused here as well, for example 2/3 on other countries and 1/3 of the attention focused on the United States.

  10. i think that U.S.A sould not try to do nothinhg if the problem does not affect the country, because U.S.A would be getting a problem that does not have nothing to do with, however if the problem affect U.S.A they sould try to solve the problem in a peaceful way.
