My current event was about racism in sports. A few soccer players in the UK have been charged with using racist comments towards other teams. Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez was banned for eight games and fined 40,000 Euros. John Terry has also been charged with using racist comments towards other players. These events have reignited concerns about racism in the game. A new program has arisen called "Show Racism the Red Card Campaign." This program focuses on anti-racism in the UK. Some Teams seem to be "dragging their feet" over the issue.

Do you think racism in sports is a problem? If so, what can we do to help prevent the use of racism?

Racism in sports is somewhat of a problem. Reason being because it is sports and when people get into the game they just start saying things trying to be hurtful or not trying to be hurtful. There is really no way this can be prevented because one person cant control what another person says.
ReplyDeleteI agree with mike I think that it is somewhat of a problem because when people get competitive they tend to yell and say things that they don't mean. If it is really offensive and someone is really hurt by the comment than they should get introuble but otherwise they should let it go.
ReplyDeleteI feel this is somewhat of an important issue, but there really is nothing to be done. These are professional sports players they have money and lots of it. Though 40,000 euro's is a lot of money these players will still continue as they are, and wont really be affected unless these fines catch up with them in the long run.
ReplyDeleteRacism in sports is somewhat of an issue. Athletes tend to get frustraded and bring race into it and It can ccause problems andshow ignorance
