Zynga buys "Draw Something" maker OMGPop.
In recent news, the gaming company Zynga has furthered there business by buying out the makers of the Draw Something application OMGPop. OMGPop is a multi-million dollar company based in New York and there recent application for all smart phones and Ipod's "Draw Something" has reeled in over 35 million dollars in its first six weeks of existence. This isn't Zynga's first purchase, they have integrated horizontally by buying out Yoville and also have integrated vertically by teaming up with organizations such as Facebook, Orkut, Google+, and Myspace to further Zynga's advertisement. Do you think Draw Something will continue making millions now that its not run under OMGPop? Do you think this was a successful integration for Zynga?

I think that the game Draw Something will continue making millions since it is the first big hit that the OMGPop company has had. Also since the new game has already been downloaded 35 million times and can be used on all smart phones and ipods that more people will download it because more people are getting the new phones. Draw Something is a very different game and I think that it is becomming so popular because it's a game where you can interact with other players and it's fun. I think it was a sucessful integration vertically and horizontally for Zynga because they can get more advertisement by all the buyers.
ReplyDeleteI also think that this was a successful integration for Draw Something because right now our world is obsessed with interacting with people from different parts of the world in different ways. For example, before I communicated with my cousins in Peru only by phone. I only recognized them by voice, I would have to buy the international phone cards in order to call them. Now, because all of this technology I can now webcam with them and even play Draw Something with them when I'm in a different part of the world, and I love it. This is the kind of interaction people all over love and this is the interaction that Draw Something has to do with, therefore, this was a great integration for Draw Something to keep making millions of dollars.
ReplyDeleteZynga made a wise investment in "Draw Something" but is it too late? Though this game has raked in over 35 million dollars. There is only so many more people that can purchase the app and that is if they even buy the app. This app also offers a free version which me and I would assume a vast majority of the people who have downloaded the game have gotten. And apps only last a "small" amount of time on the top. Eventually people stop using the apps and then the company stops bringing in all that money. Though this was a wise investment for the most part it was also possibly a waste. What I mean by that is it could be to late for Zynga to still make a large profit of off the application.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the application Draw Something with continue to make millions and millions of dollars. Reason being because being owned by Zynga helps get the app out there for others to buy. Yes this was a really smart integration by Zynga because by buying OMGPop they are now getting all the apps they had which in the end makes them more money by having more apps.
ReplyDeleteI believe that as long as the application stays the same and isn't changed by Zynga then it will continue to make a lot of money. I believe this integration was successful because they have bought up an application that will continue to make money and raise their profits. It is also successful because there advertising will go up but at the same time since so many people already had the game before they bought it there could be a potential problem in making a larger profit.
